This was an illustration I submitted to Avant card for a postcard for the cancer council. The brief was to create an illustration for girls in Year 7 and 8 to get their HPV injections to fight cancer. They wanted something bright and fun.This was my submission which got down to the top 4 but not the one they went with.

This was an illustration i worked on last year for The University of NSW Sydney (UNSW) Student Union Arc. It was used on the Calico bag that you received in the welcome Kit when you joined Arc. It is a bit of an oldie but thought i would post it up! :)

I did a series of two paper bag pastel drawing a couple months back. I will post the other one up when i take a photo of it. Its was good to get my hands dirty again since all my current work has been digital. I have been collecting brown paper bags for ages in hope to do some more...... maybe in the new year :)

Next Month I'm lucky enough to be put "ON THE WALL" for Leeloo at the Sydney Finders Keepers Markets. Im totally stoked to be hanging on the wall with all the other wonderful and talented artists that were chosen too, one being my good friend and fellow artist Laura Carey.

The next month Im going to be busy doing a few bits and pieces so keep a watch out for new post with some new designs :) Also i will be embarking on the next step of setting up an Etsy store to sell some of my prints! In the mean time keep the 2nd and 3rd of December free to go check out the Finders keepers markets, so many treats for the eyes there! you wont be disappointed!

Here are some more of my works that i created for the UMPH! exhibition. I created a universe landscape then overlayed a skeleton yardage over the top using a UV spot varnish finish. These prints were digitally printed onto canvas with a spot varnish finish.

Entering into the world of Textiles!

I was lucky enough to be given the opportunity to work for an apparel company doing graphics and textiles for the last 6 months. In this time i have learnt so many new skills, one important skill being how to create a yardage print!

So here opens a whole new world of design for me! Im very excited to start experimenting now and see where this new skill goes.....

The Tharunka Women's Edition was a publication I helped out on for Arc@UNSW. I was given the task of putting together and illustrating most of the pages in the magazine in 3 days! Its was a pretty full on experience but a rewarding one :)

So i have been M.I.A for the last couple of months, busy as a bee working and planning a adventure abroad so i have been a wee slack updating my blog.

Today i did a google search on my name (just because i have never really done it) and i was pleasantly surprised on what came up! So many lovely people had commented on my work.
So I wanted to take the opportunity to thank all of you! Not only for your kind words but also for providing an amazing resource for other creatives.
All of the blogs and sites i looked at were filled with amazing talented designers, writers, crafts and images, I just got lost in it all! Its a wonderful feeling to know that people get to see your work and also respond to it! It has definitely motivated me to get back online and put some more stuff up!!!

Winner of 'Be yourself Be Beautiful' Design Competition 2009

National Youth Week had a competition called 'Be yourself Be Beautiful'. This theme was supported by The Butterfly Foundation http://thebutterflyfoundation.org.au/Default.aspx who support Australians with eating disorders.
I was lucky enough to win the Industry award for this design. :)

WOZA!! so i won the sportsgirl 'In the Spotlight' Competition!!!!!! Ahhhhh!!!

As winner of the competition sportgirl have put my design as the wallpaper backdrop on their website, so every page you go to there its is... my design!!!

Gosh! its such an amazing feeling seeing my work in association with the Sportsgirl brand.

Sportsgirls "IN THE SPOTLIGHT" design competition

Another competition!

Sportsgirl www.sportsgirl.com.au/ have put out a design comp for the "In the spotlight" section of their website.
Sportsgirl supplied a tool box which included bits of pieces or girly symbols (like rabbits ears, love hearts, paintbrushes, splodges of colour and frames) Using any of these symbols you had to create an image.

Using some of the tools I also drew the girl and then used bits of pieces I had found and this is what I ended up with........

This was something that i worked on while I was home at my parents in the country. It's funny how productive you are when you don't have the distraction of the city. I also worked on some sketches which i will post up soon..... :)

Something that's been motivating me to design lately is entering design competitions. Dosh https://www.dosh.com.au/ was running a wallet print design comp in conjunction with Semi-permanent to have one of your designs on one of there wallets. Pretty cool. So here are some concepts I came up with........

Very exciting news! While i was flicking through the pages of semi-permanent 2010 there it was MY DESIGN! I nearly fell off my chair with excitement!

Semi-permanent did not disappoint this year, all speakers were interesting and inspiring in their own way and I left feeling so motivated!! Stand out for me was Frankie Magazine, tin&ed and Jessica Hische... loved, loved, LOVED their work. Oh and Travis Millard & Mel Kadel were so entertaining and their work is fantastic too!!

I'm currently working on a design for the Dosh wallet competition which i will post when I'm finished.

Semi-Permanent Tomorrow!!

Very excited to be attending Semi-Permanent Tomorrow! This years line up has a great mix of all mediums and by no doubt will leave me feeling quite inspired!

I submitted some work towards the book this year and surprisingly enough received an email from Andrew from 'design is kinky' saying they liked my work and if they had room may include it...... (Ahhhhhhhhhh!!!) No news to this day if they did or not (lets hope no news is good news) Either way I'm pretty chuffed i got an email saying they like my work! :)

My name is Dilshani, I'm a Graphic designer/Creative, living in Sydney but finding myself not being very creative.
